So former employee Aaron brought me tribute from last week’s Wondercon to appease my mighty wrath, in the form of a copy of the newest Swamp Thing #1 signed by writer Scott Snyder:
And…oh ho, what’s this?
For those of you just joining this website already in progress (-ive ruin), that would be a reference to the greatest piece of
Swamp Thing merchandise ever created…the infamous “Swamp Thing chalk,” as seen here:
Anyway, between this and the War Rocket Ajax incident…well, Mr. Snyder probably isn’t thinking “oh, man, not another person bugging me about this Mike Sterling guy again,” but we’re getting there, surely.
…There are other new comics out today, too, I
guess, but I don’t know why they bothered.
- Pal Andrew’s latest Nobody’s Favorites entry is a comic that absolutely is no one’s favorite comic. NO ONE. If you say this is your favorite comic, you’re wrong.
- It’s a new Previews for Gays from pal Dorian, which, in a way, brought about Dor’s latest Paperback Book Club post.
- I may be soon getting my hands on an issue of Teen-In that will fit right in with this collection of groovy comic covers, courtesy a certain little stuffed bull of some note.
- Hey, Mark Waid has a free short digital comic, illustrated by Jeremy Rock, available for download on his site. It’s got zombies in it…NO WAIT, DON’T RUN AWAY it’s actually a good little story.
- Related: the fellows at the CO2 Comics Blog just posted the first part of a history of comics printing, with an eye on the incorporation of digital delivery.
- Also, don’t forget to read these web comics: Copernicus Jones, and Awesome Hospital, and Boldly Gone, and The Rack, and The Line, and Rose Madder, and then maybe come by the store and let me sell you some comics printed on dead trees, too. I’d like to think there’s still room for both paper comics and those newfangled space age comics you crazy kids all read on your iKindles and your Nookpads.
I can only assume the “magne power ring” has the ability to summon founding A-Ha member Magne “Mags” Furuholmen. Or else it’s a typo and it cause mange, which would be terrible. Or perhaps it’s a manga power ring with the ability to make teenagers park ‘n’ read in bookstore aisles.
“Sense extension” is also intriguing, like, I don’t know, being able to smell around distant corners, or hear things like aphids screaming. Common sense extension would be practical, because who couldn’t think of a few people who could use a little of that.
Also, “Natural super powers” seems a bit self-contradictory.

“Little Dot” looks
terrifying, frankly. It’s those soulless coal-lump eyes, I think.

So, do you remember this cover for Swamp Thing #8 (as featured in a recent End of Civilization post) where the Shocking! New! Appearance! of Swamp Thing was blacked out to prevent heart stoppages and catchings of the vapors amongst an unsuspecting public?
Well, Swamp Thing’s true appearance on the cover was revealed, apparently exclusively, on
this site right here.
Of course, a few days ago we got a bit of a peek at Swamp Thing’s new look in DC’s most recent solicitation info release, where the cover of #10 features Yanick Paquette’s tribute to the Bernie Wrightson cover for the original #10:
It’s missing a couple details (like the big ol’ honkin’ antlers on Swampy’s head), but there you go.
…And yeah, looks like it’s the return of Arcane comin’ up. Still holding out for an appearance by Cranius, however.
It’s been a busy couple of days for me, what with my birthday on Tuesday (thank you folks for the birthday wishes!) and my sister’s birthday yesterday (please wish Jeanne a happy birthday as well), so I’m just going to unwind today and enjoy the sheer epic spectacle of…King Krypto:
1. There may be no funnier bit of dialogue from Silver Age Superman-family comics than Krypto thinking “look at those eats!”
2. …Though Krypto seriously pondering “was I born to rule?” is a close second.
Oh, King Krypto, you’re the best.
images from Superboy #77 (December 1959) by Jerry Siegel and George Papp – by the way, “King Krypto” is the name of some “herbal” something-or-‘nother, which I discovered via Googling. Google it yourself, at your own risk.
In other news, APES GOT SWEET RIDES:
Yes, the first and third cars are mostly the same, save for the extra orangutan seating room in the latter. You gotta pay extra for that.

Happy birthday to my blogging birthday brother Andrew, and a slightly belated birthday to Caleb who, I discovered in the midst of putting this post together, did a similar thing for his own birthday. I wasn’t copying him, honest! Also, thanks to the Grand Comics Database, which I totally abused for this thing.
