This post contains a slight spoiler as to the identity of that classic Swamp Thing villain that’ll be popping up in the book soon.

So, do you remember this cover for Swamp Thing #8 (as featured in a recent End of Civilization post) where the Shocking! New! Appearance! of Swamp Thing was blacked out to prevent heart stoppages and catchings of the vapors amongst an unsuspecting public?

Well, Swamp Thing’s true appearance on the cover was revealed, apparently exclusively, on this site right here.

Of course, a few days ago we got a bit of a peek at Swamp Thing’s new look in DC’s most recent solicitation info release, where the cover of #10 features Yanick Paquette’s tribute to the Bernie Wrightson cover for the original #10:

It’s missing a couple details (like the big ol’ honkin’ antlers on Swampy’s head), but there you go.

…And yeah, looks like it’s the return of Arcane comin’ up. Still holding out for an appearance by Cranius, however.

Swampy is also on the cover of the Animal Man Annual.

    What’s on the cover of ST-Vol.5 #9, BTW? I totally forgot…

Cranius went to jail at the end of Search For Swamp Thing, but I can definitely see his Earth-0 counterpart coming back.

Matt Cable coming back is silly, but I doubt in this new universe he ever became Matthew The Raven. There are infinite universes again (thanks to Alex Luthor in Infinite Crisis) but only one Dreaming, hence only the Matt Cable of Earth-1 could have become the Dream Raven.

So the Earth-0 Swamp Thing has antlers! And the Earth-0 Black Orchid is actually black and not one of the purple plant-clones. And the Earth-0 Poison Ivy is Uma Thurman again. Can’t wait until Multiversity hits…

Everyone who cares probably already knows but Swampy makes an actual appearance in Animal Man #7.Also,Frankenstein battles the Rot in issue #9 of his book.I love how we all help each other out to keep track of these tie-ins and thanks so much to you,Mike, for giving us a forum to do so.DC would have done well to add a feature that gave a concise list of comics that tie in to any given plotline in their line.Instead they made it harder to navigate their site!Go figure!

I’m most certainly hoping for an appearance by Cranius.

Which should be read first? Animal Man #7 or Swamp Thing #7?

I’m not able to use the DCcomics.com site anymore, either.

If I could weigh in, as someone who’s a huge fan of “Green Man” imagery, I’m really interested in seeing Swamp Thing embrace this aspect of his character( even if it is a bit on-the-nose).

If there’re any Swampy fans who aren’t familiar with the rich history of the Green Man, I encourage you to do a Google search.

I only started getting Animal Man with issue #4 when Swampy was first mentioned. That’s right,I’ll buy any book that has a character even just say Swampy’s name.LOL.My reading order so far is ST#1-2-3-4, AM#4-5-6, ST#5-6-7, AM#7-8, then back to ST till he’s mentioned again in AM.By the way,no jokes about AM standing for Anal Man,please.
