News Flash.
Update to the William Messner-Loebs talk from last week (reminder: here’s his GoFundMe) — a couple of you noted that DC has announced a new omnibus reprint of his (and Greg LaRocque’s) run on The Flash.
I haven’t found an issue listing yet, but that’s definitely the cover from the first issue on that omnibus there. That has me wondering if they’re going to include the first 14 issues of this Flash series written by Mike Baron, or just pick up from #15, Messner-Loebs’ first. I mean, I presume not, I just see Loebs’ name there. It’s good stuff, regardless, and Loebs picks up from Baron’s run, fleshing out situations and characters and keeping things weird and exciting.
I would kind of preferred paperbacks, but as was noted in my comments, maybe those will come later. But so long as some money is getting to Loebs from this, it’s a welcome move from DC.
I’m pretty sure that’s a Jackson Guice cover, and since he was the first artist on Wally West Flash, and that was the cover from issue no 1, it does seem odd that DC isn’t going with a Greg Laroque cover…unless the Mike Baron/Jackson Guice stories are included…but then why aren’t they getting credited on the cover? Oh well, good for Loebs (and Laroque) that this is being released.
This has happened with DC books before. The first ‘JSA by Geoff Johns’ volume includes the James Robinson and David Goyer stories from before Johns started (though admittedly that was only 4 or 5 issues as opposed to 15). I imagine it’ll include the Mike Baron stuff as well, they’ll be using it as a general catch-all for the start of the series. Hopefully that means both Baron and Messner-Loebs get some money, and it’s good that they’re doing something to help Messner-Loebs.
This is really good news! I hope he is getting a decent chunk of money from this. (I know he would have if Paul Levitz was still in charge…)
“first 14 issues of this Flash series written by Mike Baron”
I thought he wrote more than that! I associate him SO much with that series.
“that was the cover from issue no 1”
Yup, looks like it!
In addition to his Go Fund Me, Messner-Loebs also has a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/billmessnerloebs?utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan
While I don’t care much for omnibuses (too big for my tastes), I’ll be thrilled to buy this one. I’ve long held that Messner-Loebs deserves wider recognition and that his work should be kept in print.
