No, it wasn’t me.
So here’s something that turned up in a collection recently:
…an ink illustration on a magazine-sized backing board, signed “Michael” and dated 1995:
We’re trying to determine if “Michael” was a comics pro, or if this was a piece of amateur art, or even who the character is, if it’s anyone in particular. (It kind of feels like a ’90s post-Image Comics redesign of an established character, but who knows, really.) If any of you folks out there can help a pal out and give me any clues, I’d appreciate it. And if the answers turn out to be totally obvious…well, I’ve had a long week, cut me some slack.
Speaking of which, I should be back on track, more or less, after this recent break, so posting should be back to whatever passes for my schedule here nowadays.
The hair and the shiny thigh-high boots make me think “Phoenix.” But the way one of her legs looks like it’s going to break off makes me think “Ouch.” So it could be either one of those.
The sort of beak/wing shape of the top bit between chest and throat also says Phoenix, but I don’t remember a period where Jean Grey had a cyberarm.
“Rogue” was my first thought when I saw this. No idea who the artist is though.
Easy. That’s Plastic Man.
I’m going to guess Riptide from Youngblood. Hair is similar, swimsuit and stockings and long gloves. Only thing I can’t figure is the shoulders and upper arm bracelets. and who “Michael” is…
Does remind me of Riptide, but the cynic in me says “design for Jean Grey character stand in for Jim Lee’s Wildcats” (and no I’m not spelling that properly, that’d be silly.)
It has a Michael Bair vibe to it
The signature is the most artistic and professional aspect of that whole thing.
I count zero feet, so I’m going to speculate that Michael is a pen name for Rob Liefeld.
Good to see I’m not the only one that thought Liefeld with the lack of feet.
There is lots of armor on her…anybody look into the possibility that Marvel took a shot at Lady Thor in 1995???
“This is an ARM. Drawn by NOBODY. It’s worth… NOTHING!”
That actually looks all-right, though, though her stance looks.. UNCOMFORTABLE.
