That thumbs-up is just oozing sarcasm.
Alec’s neck is turned at an unnatural angle in the last panel. What they’re really saying is cool is the fact that his head is turning a full 360.

Why do all the non asian kids all have mammoth, pearly white teeth?
I think it’s more that the Asian kid is the only one in the whole sequence not smiling.

The kid in the 2nd panel couldn’t figure out what ‘Fit to Win’ means? It’s not exactly translating Latin or something.
I was going to make some kind of comment about Alec now being in charge of the local Aryan Nation chapter, because y’know, he was kicked out of the Tea Party for being too extreme, when I noticed this:

I think I had this comic. I had at least one of these Tandy Computer Whiz Kids comics; I remember a newspaper reporter sending her story back to the office over the phone lines using her TRS-80 Model 100 with an acoustic coupler modem.
