    Howdy Mike.
You’ve just awakened a long-lived peeve of mine: Why is it that comics artists just can’t manage to draw guitars? (They’re generally none too good at motorcycles either.)
That guitar, which, despite the lack of wires (and the presence of a sounding hole) looks like an electric. A left-handed electric being played to the right, witness the “horn” and volume knobs being on top. Somehow guitars in comics are always these oddly misshapen things. Just venting a little pet peeve here. Another is that somehow headstones are always ready-carved and in place when there’s a comic book funeral. Ain’t that way in real life- it takes time to prepare a memorial, and the freshly-dug earth around an open grave isn’t strong enough to support the weight of a monument. Aside from that, everything’s wonderful, except that it’s now 9:30AM of a Previews Wednesday, and you don’t have my favorite- “End of Civilization” post up yet. Such a slacker.

Mike, you might want to check out the odd home-made Nancy comic at this link:

No, creepy toothless drummer, I do not want any candy. I do not need a ride to school. Leave me alone.

Also, what is happening with the piano player’s leg?

  • Old Bull Lee says:

It looks like the piano player’s hip is either extremely flexible or broken, and he’s doing something to the piano…

Agreed, Paul Stock. Most of them are horrible at drawing guns too.

  • Raf says:

I’m with Paul on this one.

  • Raf says:

I mean, really. How hard can it be to draw a guitar? Or, in this case, 6 tuning pegs?

  • Monty says:

If it is, in fact, an electric guitar, it’s still the only non-acoustic instrument in a band called “The Electrics.”

  • Tom Mason says:

Grandenetti was in his 40s when he drew this so I doubt he was paying any attention to those long-haired hippie bands unless they were on his lawn…

  • Mikester says:

Tom – Being in my 40s, I find your explanation the most plausible.

  • JB says:

Is there an APOSTROPHE ERROR on that piano?
    Oy.

  • Jack Fear says:

    It’s ELECTRICS! Woogy-woogy-woogy!

  • bl000 says:

All this bitching about the guitar & nobody’s mentioned that the bass player is playing with a freaking bow?! Unless he’s the cellist in the band.

  • teaflax says:

For a band called The Electric’s (sic) they sure seem to be entirely unplugged.
