Roy Thinnes supposedly claimed (I acknowledge the possibility that a tabloid journalist distorted his words) that the cancellation of THE INVADERS was really an act of suppression by the government, because the show was too close to the truth.
If he was rescued ‘moments later’ then he was, what, 100 feet from help? They probably said “Look left idiot, there’s a lemonade stand right next to you. Oh yeah, and next time fill the tank.”
Because there’s no way 130 degree weather will cause you to hallucinate.
I wonder if he discussed this with Leonard on an episode of In Search of.

Did they get the story from him at the same time the picture was taken? If so, did they think to check what the Captain was smoking there at the time?
Good thing he wasn’t flying in a plane. He might have gotten all freaked out.

I read recently where he said he made the whole thing up just for publicity. I figured that at the time even though I was just a kid!
